Some stories are just too unlikely to be true. You could also believe that about Maja and little Maria's story. But this story is more than real. Unknowingly pregnant and with severe menstrual pain, Maja pushed out little Maria in the toilet bowl at her small apartment in Manila.
Maja grew up with her family in Norwegian Larvik. She is an adventurous and rather extreme girl of 31 years of age. She likes to parachute and bungee jump has been driving race cars and lost her driving license. She also traveled a lot in her life.
"I probably have some kind of letter combination. But I have accepted it and that is who I am. It has made me experience a lot that other people may never have experienced, ” says Maja.
Maja started her professional life as a cashier at Remi (ICA). She was accepted into their talent program and quickly advanced to store manager. However, Maja did not like her life situation and she resigned from stable jobs and sold her apartment. With money in her pocket, she began to travel around the world.
“I have been traveling for almost 10 years. I have lived in Holland, Denmark, Italy, and Thailand before moving to the Philippines. My money was running out and it was time to start working again. I saw a job advertisement in a Facebook group, applied for the job and that's how I ended up in the Philippines, ” Maja explains.
Maja got a job at Onlinefactory in Manila, Philippines, which specializes in outsourcing for Swedish e-retailers. She works in customer support for Norwegian customers for a large Swedish e-retailer. She says that she was back at work already 1 week after the surprising birth of her daughter, Maria. How have you arranged your practical life as a single mother in a foreign country?
“I have received fantastic support from both work colleagues and my employer, Onlinefactory. They have arranged for babycare for 10 hours every weekday and the founding couple has become a bit of my extended family. But I also received great support from my work colleagues who helped with whatever they have. So, I was able to return to work very quickly and I enjoy my life right now. I did not think I was "mother material" but I now realize that I am a super mom ", laughs Maja.
Back to the story of the newborn little Maria. Maja says that it was completely unplanned and also, she has been completely unaware of the pregnancy. She has gained some weight during pregnancy but there have been no clear signs that she was pregnant.
Statistically, 1 in 20,000 children is born without the mother being aware of the pregnancy. 19,999 mothers out of 20,000 have a hard time believing it. But take into account that 130,000,000 babies are born each year. So in absolute numbers, this phenomenon is more common than one might think. What are your plans for the future?
"I have no clear plans for the future for me and Maria as of the moment. I enjoy life as it is right now. Ideally, I want to meet a good Filipino man and settle down here in the Philippines. But who knows - I might move back to Norway and start studying again. But the latter is not so attractive ", concludes Maja.
I try to pressure Maja on the big question: "Who is the father of the little princess?". Maja then starts talking about her time in Thailand where she studied the Thai language in parallel with Muay Thai training. She goes on to say that the plan was to become an adult in Thailand, but she realized that she probably never will be. At least not before Maria's surprising entry into Maja's life. She then starts talking about Komvux studies, life in Holland, and I realized that there is no answer to my question.
Father unknown. To be continued.....
