Rolf was born in northern Germany but grew up in the southern parts of Heidelberg where he studied literature. He then completed his studies in the United States and took an international master's degree in "comparative literature". Rolf then stayed in the USA for a couple of years and worked, among other things, as a teacher of German at the University of California.
After this adventure, I wanted to return to Europe and Italy because I wanted to learn the Italian language. After all, it is so beautiful. The years in Italy are among the best in my life. I learned to speak Italian fluently and got a good job as an Export Manager at a ceramic company in Parma, says Rolf.
After 7 years in Italy, it was time to move back to Germany where he continued his career as an Export Manager but now for a textile company. Rolf also took the opportunity to study further and took a master's degree in marketing (MBA). He then got a job in the US military at the army base in Frankfurt, where he worked as a Liason Officer for 7 years.
During the years in Germany, I also took the opportunity to indulge in my main interest and I started my own company in antiques and art. I bought unique antiques and art in Eastern Europe which I then resold in Germany. In some periods I devoted myself to this full time and in other periods alongside my professions, says Rolf.
Rolf then suffered a tragic fate in which his wife and life partner passed away after unnecessary negligence from the German healthcare system. The pain from this incident, more or less, drove Rolf to flee to the Philippines. A country he has long been interested in for the exciting mix of Asian culture with deep influences of both Spanish and American culture.
In the Philippines, I have mainly worked in customer service for various companies such as Accenture, BMW, and Wurth. Eventually, I ended up at Onlinefactory.asia OnlineFactory where I work with customer support for Bemz. I can now use my language skills in German, Italian, English, French, Spanish, and Dutch daily. I am a very pragmatic person who likes flat structures and with space for personal responsibility. It's much more important to me than fine titles. That is why I enjoy my work for Bemz very much, Rolf states.
In conclusion, Rolf says that he lives with his new Filipino wife Cez a couple of miles outside Manila on a small farm of 900 sqm. The couple runs a non-profit business where they take care of abandoned cats - something that is plentiful in the Philippines. The couple today has more than 130 cats and most of Rolf's salary goes to cat food, medicines, and other necessities of the cats.
It is fantastic that a person with that education, language talent, experience, and positive attitude chooses to work for us here in the Philippines. It's not only that he does a very good job in outsourced customer support for our customer and their customers - where he works many extra hours on his initiative without being paid for it. He also has a big heart that is passionate about all these cats. It is clear that we at OnlineFactory want to be a part of this and now we are monthly sponsors for their cat home, concludes Kristina Mero who is an office manager at OnlineFactory.
